Leon Bridges, born Todd Michael Bridges on July 13, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia, was raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He learned to play guitar by practicing simple chords and performing at open mics at his workplace, Del Frisco’s Grille. In his early career, Bridges focused on singing 1950s and '60s-style soul music. His first entries into the music world were two singles released on the free online platform for streaming and sharing music, SoundCloud. In late 2014, he signed with Columbia Records and released his debut album, Coming Home, which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best R&B Album category and ranked number six on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2016 and 2017, Bridges collaborated on songs with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Nick Waterhouse, and Kacey Musgraves, while also releasing his own music with various collaborators. In early 2018, Coming Home was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He subsequently released three singles from his highly anticipated second album, Good Thing: “Beyond,” “Bad Bad News,” and “Bet Ain’t Worth the Hand.” Bridges earned his first Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance and went on to headline or co-headline shows with artists such as John Mayer, Terrace Martin, and Lucky Daye.
Leon Bridges continues to record and release new music, with his latest album, Leon, released in September of 2024.
