Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete on February 15, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, moved to Houston shortly after her birth with her mother, Holly Thomas. Instead of placing her daughter in daycare, Holly took Megan with her to recording sessions. At the age of 14, Megan began writing her own raps and eventually showed them to her mother at 18. Holly insisted that Megan wait until she was at least 21 to follow in her footsteps.
During her freshman year at Prairie View A&M University, Megan began uploading videos of herself rapping on various social media platforms. She later took a break from music to move back home, resuming her studies at Texas Southern University, where she graduated on December 11, 2021, with a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration.
Megan first garnered mainstream popularity with the release of her singles “Hot Girl Summer” and “Cash Sh**,” which featured popular artists such as Nicki Minaj, DaBaby, and Ty Dolla Sign. Over the years, she continued to release hit after hit, each achieving high placements on the Billboard charts.
Throughout her career, Megan Thee Stallion has received numerous awards, including six BET Awards, five BET Hip Hop Awards, four American Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, three Grammys, a Billboard Woman in Music Award, and recognition as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in their annual list in 2020.
